Airport Security & Packing Tips

It is an offense to take forbidden dangerous goods on board an aircraft. The law restricts the type and quantity of dangerous goods allowed to be carried by passengers.

Examples of forbidden goods are:

  • Pressurised containers, e.g. household aerosols, gas cylinder
  • Flammable gas, liquid or solids, e.g. lighter refills, gas soldering iron, gas camping stove, flammable glue, paint, ink, phosphorus;
  • Household items, e.g. thinner, pesticide
  • Corrosive substances, e.g. wet-cell batteries
  • Explosives & weapons, e.g. fireworks, signal flares, ammunitions
  • Others: Magnetized or radioactive material, toxic or infectious substance like diagnostic samples, chemical

Please follow airline instructions for other forbidden dangerous goods.

Examples of allowable dangerous goods with restrictions:

  • One lighter or safety matches – must be on person
  • Medicinal or toilet articles – net quantity of each item must be less than 0.5 litres, with a total net quantity of not more than 2 litres. They must be non-radioactive and may contain aerosol, e.g. perfume or hair spray
  • Heat producing articles, e.g. high intensity light. Disconnect the power source and put it in carry-on baggage
  • Battery terminals are protected to prevent fires created by short-circuiting
  • Electric wheelchairs, dry ice, ammunition for sporting use require special handling with airline approval
